Make a special trip to see the Gorges de la Méouge, near Châteauneuf-de-Chabre.
Rising in the Drôme, this bustling river has dug out over 4 km of naturally coloured limestone gorges – a miniature Grand Canyon! Wild and strange, with small sandy beaches, enormous polished boulders, water holes and waterfalls. A magic spot for summer swimming in cool, fresh, water. A very old Romanesque-style three-span bridge and the ruins of a mill destroyed by floods in 1901 guard the gorges well.
The valley is a classified wildlife park. Information panels explain the animals and plants you can see there. Geology buffs will enjoy the unusual stratified white limestone outcrops. Many paths pass through the park.
